Matthew Obelgoner, co-owner of Humbug Holiday Lighting of Macon-Greensboro-Milledgeville. With the holidays approaching, the new business venture is seeing an uptick in interest.

About a year and a half ago, Matthew and Lauren Obelgoner made the move from Macon to Milledgeville. They started Mosquito Hunters Macon-Greensboro-Milledgeville, covering areas across Georgia.

With Matthew’s love of the outdoors, it became clear that starting Mosquito Hunters Macon-Greensboro-Milledgeville would be a natural fit and it remains one to this day. However, Matthew faced another dilemma once wintertime came around because as he explained: mosquitoes go into hibernation when temperatures dip for three to four consecutive days, so he realized he needed an “offseason” gig, which is how the new venture Humbug Holiday Lighting came to be.

Humbug Holiday Lighting Macon-Greensboro-Milledgeville, much like Mosquito Hunters, covers areas throughout central Georgia. They handle installation, maintenance, removal and off-season storage of exterior holiday lighting and décor. Additionally, Humbug Holiday Lighting offers custom design and the team works with customers to create something that reflects the customer’s style.

“We do everything from rooflines to wrapping trees and bushes with many lights, to greenery such as garlands and wreathes pretty much wherever you want them,” Obelgoner said.

If a customer is looking for something more unique, they can specially order items as well. All of the lights are custom cut to customers’ homes. “It’s not stuff that we go and buy at Walmart,” he said.

They use commercial-grade high-quality lights that’ll shine 10 to 15 times brighter than those available in stores.

Obelgoner and two other Mosquito Hunters franchisees got together and built the Humbug concept from the ground up. The central Georgia location opened in September.

Though he hasn’t been pushing things too hard since he and his wife welcomed a baby a few weeks ago, Obelgoner said that things are starting to ramp up, with Humbug Holiday Lighting gaining customers.

Obelgoner said Humbug Holiday Lighting is unique compared to others because of the level of service offered. He said the attention to detail, quality of service, product quality, and excellent customer service make Humbug Holiday Lighting stand out.

He said that he has decorated his house with lights since he was young, and that he gets joy from the Christmas season.

The community is invited to officially welcome the business to the area with a ribbon cutting ceremony slated for Thursday, Nov. 17.

When a job is done, Obelgoner hopes that customers will be satisfied with the work that Humbug Holiday Lighting has done.

“I hope that they are blown away, that they enjoy it, and feel like it’s money well spent,” he said. “I want them to be like ‘Wow, I couldn’t have done this myself’ and have that sense of gratitude, happiness and overall appreciation for the lights that we’ve gone out and put on their house.”
