Back-to-school giveaways are popping up, signaling that another school year is on the verge of beginning.

The Baldwin County School District’s annual Back to School Bash is one of those events kickstarting the new year.

This year’s event is slated from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Baldwin High School on Highway 49. There will be resources and materials available to help students start the year off focused on success.

The event also allows students to meet administrators and other staff and connect with resources and ask questions. There will be free school supplies and other resources. This will also be an opportunity for parents and students to meet new BCSD Superintendent Dr. Kristina Brooks, who will join teachers and staff in welcoming students.

This is a way to not only engage students and get them excited about a new school term, but also to educate parents about materials and resources that are available locally. There will be free school supplies, food and other opportunities for fun engagement.

Students who start school with the supplies they need in the classroom and at home are more motivated, have higher self-esteem, and enjoy a better learning experience overall.

Several additional back-to-school events and free school supply drives are filling the calendar in the coming weeks, all to start students out on the right path this school year.

Parents and students should plan to attend so that the lack of school supplies is one less hurdle to cross this year.

Even if you don’t have school-aged children, don’t pass up the opportunity to help support local students and teachers, who often purchase supplies out of pocket throughout the school year. Consider donating supplies.

Every child should have the chance to start off each new school year with the necessary tools to succeed. These drives help ensure that one less roadblock stands in the way of local students excelling in the classroom this school year.

Help support local students and local education by contributing to this effort.
