The incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. It happened on Kings Road east of Stembridge Road.
Kirby said the victim was struck by a 2016 Toyota Tundra Crewmax driven by Lasheka Lashell Outlaw, 37, of Sandersville.
The driver of the pickup truck was traveling west on Kings Road when the accident happened.
Kirby said Outlaw’s truck traveled approximately 30 feet west after impact with the victim’s body lying in the roadway. The truck came to what was described as a controlled rest just beyond the area of impact.
“The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries,” Kirby said.
Outlaw said it was raining at the time.

“She stated she saw an object lying in the roadway and was unable to stop or slow to avoid it,” Kirby said in his report.
The woman said she turned around and went back to see what she had struck.
She discovered the man’s body in the roadway and called 911 for help.
Kirby said Troopers First Class Robert Land and Stephen Spires notified the family of the deceased victim.
“The family stated that the pedestrian was drinking heavily that night,” Kirby said. “The pedestrian left the house between 3:30 and 3:45 a.m. and went for a walk down the road without shoes while wearing a black shirt.”
Shortly after 7 the night before, a dispatcher with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen who said a man matching the same description had been seen walking in the same area without shoes.
“The caller stated that he was walking on the fog line and he did not seem like he was in the right state of mind,” Kirby said.
The investigating state trooper said a trooper assigned to the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Reconstruction Team (SCRT) also assisted in the investigation.
