To say that family is deeply rooted in Big Daddy’s Sweet Treats would be an understatement. Owner Todd Miles says that family is the reason he opened the establishment.

Miles loves to bake with his grandchildren, which is kind of how he got his start in the world of baking and desserts. The shop opened because Miles gets so much joy from his family and wanted to share that experience with others.

Miles and his family are from Eatonton, which is where the first Big Daddy’s Sweet Treats opened its doors about a year ago. The name of the business is derived from the “Big Daddy” nickname that was bestowed upon Miles by his children and grandchildren. It has been a few weeks since Big Daddy’s Sweet Treats made its debut at a location in Milledgeville at 132 S. Wayne St. With family friends in the area, Miles said there is “always something” to do in downtown Milledgeville, making the decision to expand the business easier.

Getting the new location started was less trouble than one might expect.

“The process was fairly easy. Some neighbors were very kind to us and helped us out with everything we needed,” Miles said. “We had a few hiccups here and there, as any business does, but with help, we managed to get it going very quickly.”

Miles said word-of-mouth is impacting the business in a good way.

Customers will find quite the selection of items on the menu at Big Daddy’s Sweet Treats including 24 different flavors of ice cream and baked goods. Miles said they have “anything that you could imagine dipped in chocolate.” Some of their more popular items include the chocolate dipped cookies, which Miles called a favorite among kids, and the red velvet cake. There are also plans in place to add more to the menu, including a selection of fair foods.

Open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Big Daddy’s Sweet Treats offers in-person dining, with plans to offer delivery at a later date.

A deal for half-priced cookies runs on Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Big Daddy’s is unique according to Miles because of the classic look and feel of the establishment.

Even the logo of the business is likely to remind customers of simpler times, with a font and cartoon art style that appears to have been lifted from a different era.

“We wanted everyone to walk in and feel like a kid again,” he said. “We wanted the 1960s banana splits all the way to the homemade triple chocolate cake you remember growing up.”
