It’s a sad situation.

I’ve written several letters and remain surprised at the folks who remain reluctant to get their Covid vaccination.
Severe illness, possible death and infliction of health consequences to their loved ones, neighbors, and friends have simple fallen on deaf ears. How extraordinary!
Now we’re seeing economic consequences with employment mandates and increased insurance premiums. That’s good, but it points to a human failing that is difficult to swallow. The remaining unvaccinated folks … excluding those with a bonafide medical reason … simply don’t get it.
Perhaps it’s a reflection of a lifetime of “all about me.” Maybe it’s a consequence of the home moral training. And clearly, spiritual organizations have failed miserably with these folks.
But if the unvaccinated could imagine looking into the eyes of their favorite family member, or a small child, or a sickly elderly friend … and telling them that they are willing to hurt them … perhaps kill them … they couldn’t do it.
The illness, the labored breathing, the terrible isolated death, the inflicted stress and strain on the medical system … are all too removed from their conscience.

So we’re left with mandates, a few financial carrots, and the inevitable thinning of that unvaccinated herd to run Covid to ground.
Wear your mask folks and get vaccinated. It’s a sad situation out there.
