GAUTIER: Support Milledgeville Cares

As we move toward the end of the calendar year, some of us are inundated with mailed pleas for donations to numerous charitable organizations, most of them national or larger in scope, and all of them worthy of support. This morning, it occurred to me that none of that money would directly assist anyone in our community, and a percentage of each donation would go to “overhead” and not to alleviate human suffering.

Milledgeville Cares is a local organization that shares household necessities, financial aid when available, clothing, strategies, and most of all hope and charity. It is important to help our own neighbors directly and quickly, especially in emergencies such as fires.
In light of this, I have decided to donate, not out of state or even out of town, but to this underfunded but hard-working charity. Real charity does, after all, begin at home. In addition, I plan to make regular contributions to Milledgeville Cares because I know every penny will go to help someone in greater need than I have ever known. There is no overhead – they have not even had an office for two years.
Milledgeville Cares is a 501(c)3 organization, therefore every donation is tax-deductible. I hope that you, too, will contribute to this vital organization, both now in the “giving season” and in the future, because the need is great and is increasing every week. Details can be found on the website www.milledgevillecares.com.
May you and your loved ones experience the twin joys of thanksgiving and of giving!
