BILLS: I was raised in a Democratic home

Letter to the Editor

My parents were of the greatest generation. My Dad, a farm boy from Indiana, fought in WWII, and was Blue Collar. My mom was a proud homemaker and granddaughter of immigrants. We learned the Democratic Party was for the “common man”, tax & spend, and big government; Republicans were for “big business,” free markets, and smaller government. At least that is what I was told. But there is a lot more.

This article is not for Republicans looking for a Democratic bleeding heart Socialist bashing, nor Democrats looking for how Republicans are unfeeling conservative capitalists. We know both parties have ordinary people who live, work hard, love their family, and want the American Dream — perhaps you agree that they have a lot in common?

This is an informative letter and for those who are curious about the Republican platform, accomplishments, and how they impact our lives.

They claim to be the party of freedom, family and faith.  Let’s look at these values:

Freedom:

  • Republicans believe the Constitution is the cornerstone of our Democratic Republic. It limits government impingement on its citizens. Republicans have appointed Judges and Justices that interpret the Constitution as written and limiting “legislating from the bench,” which short circuits our legislative representation.
  • Safety and Justice are the cornerstones of freedom. A strong military defense, to protect our interests, spread democracy abroad, fair and equitable trade, support our veterans, and for law and order.
  • Republicans believe in strong borders, promoting legal immigration that built our country and stopping illegal immigration. Illegal border crossings weaken communities, thin local resources, and increases crime, drugs and human suffering.
  • 2nd Amendment. Republicans are fighting to keep this right to bear arms. Individuals have the ultimate responsibility for their own safety and have a right to be able to defend themselves. We know law enforcement cannot be everywhere at all times and criminals will not adhere to gun laws.

Family:

  • Every culture is based on families. They bring richness and diversity to communities. They should be trusted to make decisions that are right for them.
    • This includes school choice, medical care, career, and how to live. Prior to the pandemic, America had the lowest unemployment ever.
  • African-American communities are especially challenged. Disproportionate broken families and incarceration of fathers, gang crime, underachieving public schools, and bedraggled neighborhoods. Republicans have taken steps toward elevating these communities, with funding of opportunity zones, First Step Prison reform, permanent funding of HBCUs, and promoting School Choice. Schools that compete for students and their funding will work harder and provide a better quality education.

Faith:

  • Freedom to worship comes in many forms. The practice of faith encourages good moral behavior and promotes peace. The loss of faith and family life leads to greater dependence on government.
    • Protection of religious institutions, churches, temples, and mosques from persecution and targeting of any religious group. Freedom of religion includes the right to abstain from actions contrary to one’s religious beliefs.

Summary of Republican led accomplishments1 that reflect their core values:

  • Enacted over $3 trillion in economic relief, saving tens of millions of jobs
  • To battle COVID-19, launching the greatest mobilization since WWII
  • Taking bold action to reduce the price of prescription drugs for American patients
  • Passed the largest package of Tax Cuts and reforms in American History
  • Cut more job-killing regulations than any other Administration
  • Ended the war on American Energy. U.S. is the No. 1 producer of oil and gas on Earth
  • Building the wall and support STRONG borders, reducing drugs, crime, and human trafficking and suffering
  • Ensuring Great Healthcare with MORE AFFORDABILITY and MORE CHOICE
  • Ensuring PROTECTIONS FOR VULNERABLE PATIENTS
  • Turning the tide on the crisis of addiction with $6 billion in new funding
  • Stopping endless wars, bringing the troops home, bringing peace to Middle East, and POTUS nominated for 3 Nobel Peace prizes.

Republican conservative ideals include pride of work, the sanctity of all life, the honoring of our flag, and appreciation for our America.

America is not perfect, but to tear down or transform the greatest country that has done more for the advancement of humankind, than any other, is reckless. Incremental positive steps are the way to change, it ensures stability in the present, and benefits our future.

You have a choice coming up, vote your feelings and what the mob and media choose for you versus vote for policies and actions that are beneficial for you personally, your loved ones, and your community.

I hope you choose wisely on Nov. 3.
