Summer vacation doesn’t have to mean that learning and educational growth for young people stops and “brain drain” kicks in until the new school term begins.

There are several of local camps and summer activities that can keep young people actively engaged as they learn and have fun. While there is a cost involved with a several of the camps, other programs, such as the Summer Reading Club at the local library, are offered free of charge.

Milledgeville Allied Arts is hosting a series of summer enrichment camps. Additionally, the Baldwin County School District is hosting educational opportunities to keep local young people learning and engaged. There are also athletic camps. Georgia College and Georgia Military College are both hosting athletic camps ranging from tennis to basketball and football. Georgia College’s Continuing Education program also offers Kid’s University weekly camps and activities.

There are also day camps available in town as well as options available through the Baldwin County Recreation Department.

Be sure to also check with local churches on Vacation Bible School and other summer activities.

A host of local activities offer young people programs to engage them in the arts, sports, reading, the sciences and so much more. Note too, that the Seamless Summer meals program provides free summer meals through the Baldwin County School District at numerous locations throughout the community as well.

Fortunately, there are a number of local options out there to help ensure that young people are engaged and learning in safe environments.

Keeping young people’s minds active as they have fun during the summer promotes continued learning outside the confines of a classroom, and may go a long way in contributing to their success during the school year.
