The local community is gearing up again for the annual Hometown Celebration festivities slated for this Friday.

The event, which started out as a celebration of Milledgeville earning the Great American Main Street Award designation a few years ago, has grown into an annual community gathering.
The downtown block party-style event provides Milledgeville with a spring community-wide gathering that everyone can look forward to from year to year much like Deep Roots in the fall.
The Hometown Celebration is a chance for the whole community to take pause and celebrate all the great, shining examples that accentuate the downtown community and celebrate the marked growth that has taken place in recent years.
Events such as First Fridays, the downtown farmers markets bring activity and encourage community involvement and shopping locally. The Hometown Celebrate serves to highlight that and bring people together through the unifying appeal of music, food and fun.
There will be activities for all ages and vendors, not to mention downtown stores will be open so there will be plenty of options for dining and shopping.
That’s what downtowns should do. And its reason to celebrate and remind us to not take it for granted — to continue to work to make Milledgeville’s even downtown greater and stronger.
