A 36-year-old Milledgeville man recently stopped for a traffic violation was arrested for illegal drug possession.

The suspect was identified as Terrell Marquise Rogers Sanders, of the 1200 block of Dunlap Road, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Alex Rickey.

The traffic stop was made July 3 at Thomas Field Road and Belair Drive.

Sanders was stopped because he did not have a valid driver’s license, Rickey said.

“Upon speaking to with Sanders, he admitted he was aware his license was invalid and stated he was on his way to get food before heading home,” Rickey said.

The deputy said he asked Sanders to step out of his vehicle and to walk back to the patrol vehicle.

“While at my patrol car, I informed Sanders that based on his behavior and physical signs, I suspected he may be under the influence of a substance and that I needed to ensure he was safe to operate a vehicle,” Rickey said. “I requested Sanders’ consent for standardized field sobriety evaluations, which he granted.”

Deputy Artrail Braziel later came to the scene and assisted Rickey.

Sanders was medically cleared, at which time he underwent field sobriety tests.

The testing was stopped, however, due to Sanders’ inability to track the stimulus properly, Rickey said.

The deputy said Sanders admitted he consumed alcohol the night before and had used methamphetamine four days earlier.

Rickey said in his report that Sanders also admitted to having a small amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle. It was discovered in a backpack.
