Local library fair worthy of support

Next month the local library will host its spring library fair, a smaller-scale edition of its annual fall event held in September. Volunteers are still needed to help make the upcoming event a success. It’s not too late to become a sponsor or a volunteer for this year’s fair, which provides support for local programs that are utilized by many throughout the community.

The annual spring book sale is slated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Mary Vinson Memorial Library in downtown Milledgeville.
The book sale helps fund local programs and library services for the community, including the Summer Reading Club, which draws participants from every age group.
Remember that the library is not just a place for books and magazines for many in the local community, it’s a resource for computer access, afterschool programs and activities, tutoring and job research materials.
Industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie once said that libraries outrank “any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.”
Our public libraries remain a valuable resource for many, a central ground within communities that foster learning and development and provide much-needed tools and support.
The funds generated through supporting the annual book fair help to make all those aspects possible for so many people in the local community, which is why it warrants local support.
