GREENSBORO, Ga. — A former Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputy was recently arrested on felony criminal charges.

The charges stem from an incident where a DUI suspect was reportedly tased while handcuffed, authorities say.

Robert Allen Kline is no longer employed with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office in Greensboro.

The 51-year-old Kline is a resident of Lexington, Ga., according to a July 9 press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Agents with the local GBI field office assist law enforcement agencies in several cities in Georgia’s Lake Country.

Kline was arrested July 9. He was charged with a pair of felony criminal offenses including aggravated assault and Violation of Oath of Office.

After he was taken into custody, Kline was taken to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center in Greensboro and jailed.

Mary Chandler, special agent in-charge of the GBI Region 6 Office in Milledgeville said the GBI was requested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on July 7 to assist them in a case related to the use of force. An investigation began after local authorities learned that a deputy had tased a man already handcuffed and arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that on Sunday, July 6, at about [midnight], Greene County deputies responded to a wreck and arrested a person for driving under the influence,” Chandler said in the press release. “After the arrest, Kline, while employed as a deputy for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, tased the man while he was handcuffed.”

Several questions have been emailed to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, but as of presstime there had been no response.

Chandler said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the GBI Region 6 Office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173. Anonymous tips can also be made to 1-800-597-8477.
