Hancock Co. Sheriff’s Office Investigator Scott Blizzard passes away Tuesday

Law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical workers are mourning the death of Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Scott Blizzard, who passed away Tuesday due to illness. He was 62.

Blizzard had worked with the sheriff’s office for several years under Hancock County Sheriff Tomyln Primus and the late Chief Deputy and Investigator Ricky Brown.

Blizzard began working at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in 2019.

“As an investigator, he was loved by all,” according to a social media post from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. “He served Hancock County citizens with integrity and respect. He encouraged the sheriff’s office staff, as well as the youth of the community by giving of himself in both support and time. Scott Blizzard will be missed and loved by his family, friends and colleagues.”

In addition to serving as an investigator, Blizzard also served as a volunteer firefighter at the East Baldwin County Fire Rescue Station for several years.

He was a certified emergency medical technician and had in the past worked with the Putnam County Emergency Medical Services in Eatonton.

Several years ago, Blizzard, a Baldwin County native, also worked as an officer with the Milledgeville Police Department.

He also worked as a deputy with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office.

Blizzard also enjoyed serving as a community prep football coach.

At one time, he coached at John Hancock Academy near Sparta. And when he worked as a deputy with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office, he coached football at Fullington Academy and helped lead the team to a state championship.

Survivors include his daughter, Melinda B. Hall and her husband, Brian Hall of Milledgeville; his son, Eric Blizzard and his wife, DeAnna of Milledgeville; his mother, Joyce Smith Blizzard and his sister, Kristi Blizzard both of Milledgeville.

Other survivors include four grandchildren: Jackson Blizzard, Gavin Hall, Skylar Ramage and Carter Cheshire.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 17 from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home in Milledgeville. A Celebration of Life will follow in the funeral home chapel.
