Grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets – it’s outdoor concert season.

Allied Arts and Lockerly Arboretum have teamed together to bring a unique musical experience to the arboretum grounds Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The American Portraits Tour consists of North Carolina-born pianist Jonathan Levin and Louisiana native tenor vocalist Tyrone Chambers. They will take listeners on a journey across the country as they weave classical, folk, spirituals, jazz, and musical theatre together. The artists look to celebrate themes of peace, unity, and American heritage through their music and storytelling.

The American Portraits Tour is an ongoing, multi-faceted musical project cultivated by Levin over the last 10-plus years. This year’s cross-country tour is a collaboration between the creator and Chambers as they seek to bring communities together through shared culture and history. Their venues throughout the tour include churches, community centers, outdoor spaces such as Lockerly, and other non-traditional sites.

This year’s trek began just last week in North Carolina and will continue on a southern swing through Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas to Oklahoma, New Mexico, California, and Texas.

Tickets to Milledgeville’s American Portraits Tour stop are $10 apiece and can be purchased online at milledgevillealliedarts.com.
