EDITORIAL: Earth Week: Join the cleanup effort
Published 8:11 am Wednesday, April 23, 2025
This week is Earth Week, and Tuesday marked the annual observance of Earth Day.
There are several area cleanup events being organized for Baldwin County Cleanup Day this weekend. Please make an effort to participate and help tidy up our community.
A little more than a year ago, Keep Milledgeville Baldwin Beautiful relaunched in an effort to eradicate litter and unsightly areas in local neighborhoods. The relaunch included the Adopt-A-Road project, where local organizations and businesses adopt designated roadways to beautify and clean. It also included a more concerted awareness campaign on social media to encourage residents to get involved and stay involved.

Lets continue to build on this effort by getting educated on local cleanup projects, setting personal goals to recycle and reduce litter in our everyday activities, tidying up our spaces, and by rolling up our sleeves and getting involved.
Get involved in one of the cleanups:

–Log Cabin Road
–Meriwether Road

–Kings Road
It can be easy to make excuses, saying that one person can’t make a difference, or that recycling is too inconvenient and not worth the effort. This is simply not true.
We must work from the grassroots to change the culture of the community so that we all realize the consequences of litter and want to do better by our own community.

We only have one planet to inhabit, and it is our responsibility to take care of it. Even if it’s hard to see the immediate effects in our lifetimes, we should care about the legacy we leave for future generations.
