Letter to the Editor

Respected, servant leadership is hard to come by in American politics today. Now more than ever, politicians drive the wedge that divides us further apart instead of offering real solutions. We need real leaders who put our needs above partisan bickering. We need folks like Ken Vance representing us in Atlanta. My good friend Ken Vance is a symbol of servant leadership. He’s consistent, reliable, respected, and will work with anyone that has a good idea to improve the communities he serves.

Consistent Leadership

Since becoming a lieutenant as a police officer, working hard in school and becoming an English teacher, and serving on the Milledgeville City Council, Ken Vance’s entire life has been about serving others.

As state representative, Ken has proved to be a trusted and respected voice under the Gold Dome, leading on lowering taxes, making sure teachers get the raises they deserve, and protecting and serving those who protect and serve us: our law enforcement.

As a young man, Ken participated in a federally funded program at the University of Georgia to become a law enforcement officer. He quickly rose to the rank of lieutenant, and later, became a Public Service officer at Georgia College & State University. His heart has always been about serving his fellow Georgian.

As state representative, he has sponsored numerous bills to protect law enforcement while they perform their duties to serve, advancingbills to protect public safety of Georgian families, and creating a program for Georgians to donate to a State-funded program that gives bonuses directly to Georgia’s Sheriff’s deputies.

State Rep. Vance has also worked hard to crack down on sales of controlled substances to minors in the Georgia Legislature and protect our children from dangerous illegal drugs.

Advancing Education Opportunities

As Ken was protecting and serving his community, he finished and earned his Bachelor’s degree in English, and was later offered a position to teach at Baldwin High School, his lifelong dream. Ken was inspired to write and developed a love for poetry, and that love for poetry led him to become a teacher — imparting that same love for classical literature to the next generation of poets.

As the old saying goes, it takes one, to know one. Representative Vance knows the trials and joys of being a teacher and educating our children. He has partnered with Governor Kemp and legislative leaders to advance much-deserved teacher raises. He’s delivered on school safety measures, including direct state funding for security improvements and School Resource Officers, and he’s led on early literacy initiatives to give our students a head start in the classroom.

A Proven, Respected Track Record

If you know Ken, you like him. More importantly, you respect him. Since his time on the Milledgeville City Council, to his service now as Representative, Ken knows how to forge relationships that deliver results for his constituents.

That’s who Ken Vance is, a family-man, committed to his community, and a long-standing servant of the public. On Election Day, Nov. 5, I’m humbly asking you to vote for a community leader, teacher, and law enforcement officer — a good friend — state Rep. Ken Vance.

Sen. Rick Williams
