Natalie Hearn, owner of Natalie's Pet Grooming and Boarding.

Since she’s had a passion and love of animals for most of her life, Natalie Hearn ending up where she is in life isn’t exactly a surprise. In 1993, she turned that love into a career when Hearn took a sixth-month course of grooming school during a visit to her home state of Florida. Three years later, she would open her first business, which Hearn said was quite successful before she had to close it down in 2005. In the years since, she’s worked at a number of different places, most notably at Old Capitol Pet Care in Milledgeville.

Around two years ago, Hearn said that she decided that she wanted to return to owning her own grooming and boarding business. This year, she got that business, Natalie’s Pet Grooming and Boarding, up and running.

One bonus to locating the business in Milledgeville is that Hearn already has an established clientele in the area, having lived her since around 1987.

That clientele, she noted, has been incredibly supportive of her new business since it opened. Additionally, Hearn said that Natalie’s Pet Grooming and Boarding has continued picking up new clients with each passing week.

Currently, Hearn is the only groomer that the business has, and she works alongside a bather/helper. She’s been in the grooming game for more than 20 years and said that experience is always a plus in the field. That experience is something that Hearn said has benefited not only her but her clients and their dogs as well.

“I have already been through the growing pains before and I have already been through a good bit of the trials and errors,” Hearn explained. “I learned the first time around what not to do. I always kept up on my training through seminars and conventions, and I will be getting right back into that again.”

The full groom at Natalie’s Pet Grooming and Boarding includes a haircut, bath, ear cleaning, sanitary clip, glands, nails cut and ground and pads of feet. The business also offers baths with all of its services except haircuts for the short-haired breeds or even just a cleanup in between full grooms. These services are also offered a la carte.

The business will soon offer cat and small animal boarding. Full grooms start at $45, baths start at $18, and nail trims/grinding are $15. Hearn also noted that boarding prices will be a little different for established grooming clients.

What makes Natalie’s Pet Grooming and Boarding unique to Hearn is the level of honesty that she has with her clients.

“My clients rely on and trust me to be there and on my best game every day,” Hearn said.
