Tuesday is Election Day

The early voting period is winding down and Tuesday is Election Day. That means that local voters who haven’t already cast their ballots have just a few more days to decide which candidates will get their votes in the primary and nonpartisan election.
Hopefully by now voters have read up on the candidates as part of their decision-making process. It not, there is still time to do so — what’s most important is to become familiar with their positions before heading to the polls to cast a vote.

For the past week, The Union-Recorder has published a series of question and response segments with local candidates running opposed this election. We will continue these through Friday for each of the local races that are challenged this election. Readers can also find additional election coverage on our website under the Election 2016 section.
Our coverage isn’t the only resource that can be utilized and we strongly urge every voter to take time in some form to learn more about the races on Tuesday’s ballot and the candidates.
Early voting ends on Friday. After that, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Remember that photo identification is required to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a Georgia Driver’s License (even if expired), a state or federal issued ID, a valid U.S. passport, a valid military photo ID or a valid tribal ID. If these forms of identification are not accessible, free Voter Identification Cards are available through the county registrar’s office or the Department of Driver Services.
Come to the polls equipped with the necessary items to vote. This includes an acceptable form of identification as well as knowledge and background information about the candidates, their views and what’s at stake this election.
