Film Festival chance for area to shine

Since 2014, the Milledgeville Film Festival has brought film enthusiasts from around the world to the local area every April to celebrate the industry and help put the local community on the map for potential movie and television production.
This week, the annual film festival returns with more than 100 short films and 10 feature films among those to be screened. Among them will be a documentary on famed Milledgeville author Flannery O’Connor.

The festival has expanded from its beginnings to include four days of industry events, some of which is free and open to the public.
This event is not only a great opportunity to promote Milledgeville among movers and shakers in the film industry, it’s also an avenue for local students interested in pursuing a career in the field to meet and ask questions of industry professionals. The panels and workshops are free and can potentially provide insight into the industry. Screenings are also free to students with college or high school ID.
Two Georgia College students, Wyatt Walker and Maggie Foster, will also have their films screened at the Milledgeville Film Festival.
Filmmakers from more than 30 countries have submitted entries to this year’s festival.
This is a great learning opportunity for local students and a chance for them to gain exposure to the industry. It’s also a chance for visitors to see what Milledgeville has to offer with regards to the film industry.
This weekend as the community welcomes visitors to town, the Milledgeville Film Festival is another prime opportunity to shine a light on what the local community has to offer.
