Nurse practitioners open new integrated medical practice

Dr. Rachel Swinger Sposito, DNP, FNP-C and Katie Webster, FNP-BC met when Webster was one of Sposito’s preceptors in nurse practitioner (NP) school. They became great friends.

Sposito is a Milledgeville native and graduate of Georgia College & State University where she received her undergrad (RN degree in 2005) and her master’s degree (Family Nurse Practitioner in 2011). After graduation, she earned her doctorate degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2019. Webster grew up in a military family and has lived everywhere but has called Sparta, Georgia home since 2004. She received her BSN from Emory University before moving on to Georgia Southern University for her MSN. From 2007 to 2023, Webster worked as an NP at Milledgeville OB/GYN. She also owns a floral design business in Sparta known as Lillie Kate Blossoms.

Their latest venture is a partnership to open LEAP Integrated Health Georgia. LEAP, which stands for Listen, Educate, Advocate and Personalize, is a unique approach to holistic health care that honors both traditional western medicine along with complimentary services and seeks to uncover the root cause of disease and dysfunction. They work with patients and utilize many different approaches to help them reach their health goals.

Sposito started LEAP in northern Virginia in 2019 alongside two business partners. She and Webster partnered to bring LEAP to Milledgeville and the surrounding areas out of the joint desire they had to bring care to a community they both hold dear.

LEAP offers comprehensive functional medicine testing to assess and address common, yet often overlooked root causes of illness including gut health, hormone imbalance, nutritional deficits, metabolic dysfunction, chronic stress and sleep disturbance. They address the issues of patients and build a plan of action based on the patient’s healthcare goals.

Located at 3015 Heritage Road, Suite 3, LEAP opened its doors to patients for in-person and telehealth visits by appointment only in March. This is a cash-based practice that chooses not to bill insurance. Sposito and Webster made this decision because they found that billing insurance “limits [their] ability to provide the type of care that we and our patients so richly desire and deserve.” The cost per visit is based on the time spent with each patient. A new patient visit is typically 60 minutes and costs $230, while a follow-up appointment is generally 30 minutes and costs $115. It should be noted that most labs and diagnostic tests can still be billed through patient insurance and LEAP can provide all the information needed to file a claim to the patient’s insurance company for reimbursement. They also accept HSA/FSA cards. Certain functional medicine tests may not be covered by insurance.

Sposito and Webster also share a space and collaborate with Alaynah Luttrull of Integrative Wellness Massage Therapy. An open house was held March 10.

“The community seems very excited and recognizes the need for integrated health/functional medicine in the area because options in that realm are very limited,” Sposito said.

“We have a great love for the community and the spirit of resilience that keeps Milledgeville thriving despite many challenges over the years. We feel that opening this practice has absolutely been inspired by God’s design and we are humbled to offer hope and healing to the community.”
