Wow! Georgia is finally in the top 10 of something! No … it’s not education or health care. It’s littering!

These are the top 10 most littered states, according to Keep America Beautiful, which I found on the internet:

1. Louisiana

2. Nevada

3. Kentucky

4. Indiana

5. Georgia

6. Texas

7. Tennessee

8. Alabama

9. Mississippi

10. Arkansas

I can truly say Baldwin county earns that recognition as well. Just drive down the Vinson highway or Kings Road. It doesn’t help to complain to the county. All they do is acknowledge that it’s a problem and they get county crew to pick it up when they are in the area. They do the best they can. And we do have a local group that is committed to working on this problem. And there are a bunch of strategies that have worked in other states and that the group is looking at and implementing.

But I would really like to know from those of you that litter (who are likely not reading this…): What would make you STOP? We can clean up after you, etc. etc. But, is there anything that would make you decide to keep that trash in your car and dispose of it at home instead of chucking it out the window? I would really like to know!

And I, for one, would be willing for some of the T-SPLOST money to go toward contracting out the litter pick up for the county routinely.

Thank you.
