EDITORIAL: Support, celebrate local museums

This weekend, local museums will take part in Super Museum Sunday, sponsored by the Georgia Historical Society.

The event is a statewide initiative, aims to expose Georgians, particularly young people, to the history and diversity of our state. More than 100 Georgia museums and historical sites will be open this Sunday, free of charge.

Local participating museums, according to the Georgia Historical Society website include:

If you’ve never visited one of these local museums, this is a perfect opportunity to do so. If you have visited in the past, take this opportunity to soak in a new aspect of local history. 

These local collections and exhibits are tremendous resources for local students and educators and they provide an entertaining adventure for families to spend the day. Local residents who have never ventured to any of these sites may very well be surprised by their expansive collections.

Find out what others have already discovered in the local museum district — you may be surprised at what you uncover. 

Sunday is an excellent opportunity to explore and enjoy.
