This weekend’s Neighbors feature will focus on the local organization, Learning in Retirement, a group comprised of local seniors who gather monthly to socialize and learn and discover various aspects of the local community. They tour area museums and focus on lifelong learning through guest speakers and continuing education programs.

The Lake Country has a number of seniors and retirees and we’d like to highlight some of their stories. In the coming weeks, we will share a glimpse of local senior living in a special section celebrating vibrant local seniors who are similarly contributing to community, and we need your help.

We’re seeking nominations for local residents ages 60 and older who are serving their community, and inspiring others. They may volunteer at your church, or you may see them working at a business that you frequent. They may be pursuing a passion once delayed later in life. They may be a guest reader or tutor at your child’s school or they may even be a relative. Whatever their story and however they are giving back, we’d like to hear about it.

Seniors are often frequent community volunteers, giving of their time and insight to local civic organizations, their churches and to the community at-large. Other seniors contribute in less formal ways by sharing their wisdom through their stories and the examples they have set with their own lives.

Younger people can benefit from learning from older adults with more life experience. It is also important to reflect on their contributions in making our communities better. We want to highlight their efforts and their contributions to the local community. In the coming weeks, we’d like to share their stories, highlighting them in an upcoming special section in our paper.
