The following is information compiled from public records of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. It is our policy to not disclose the names of victims. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.

Fraud

An officer spoke via phone to an individual June 4, in reference to fraudulent activity. The complainant stated she received two phone calls by two different phone numbers from an alleged law enforcement agency in Texas. The caller claimed the complainant had warrants for money laundering and drug smuggling across the Mexican border. The caller told her that they found various documents with her information in a car located on the border, along with blood and drugs. She stated that the caller asked for her social security number and she gave it to them. The officer made contact with one of the alleged callers via phone who stated that he never called the complainant and that he was from Milledgeville, not Texas. The alleged caller stated that he received a text from the complainant saying, “I’m gonna call the cops.” The alleged caller stated that he also received a call from a different number. The officer attempted to make contact with this caller but was unsuccessful. 

Theft by Shoplifting 

An officer responded to Walmart on North Columbia Street June 4, in reference to a theft. The 911 caller witnessed a female customer attempt to shoplift by scanning only half of the several miscellaneous items in her cart at the self-checkout kiosk and attempt to leave. The female did not present a form of payment at the kiosk. The complainant confronted the female who denied all accusations. The complainant advised that the cart full of items should be taken from the female, but the female was insistent that she would go put the items back herself. When the police arrived they could not locate the female in the store.

Theft

An officer responded to the area of the 3000 block of Sussex Drive June 5, in reference missing items in the complainants house. The complainants ex-fiance, which the complainant has a protection order between, was allowed to retrieve his personal belongings from the residence. Between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. the ex-fiance retrieved his personal belongings with the help of two other subjects. The complainant noticed some of her personal belongings missing. The ex-fiance stated that he only took his personal belongings which were in boxes already packed. The other subjects helped the ex-fiance move the larger items from the house in which the officer located and was unable to find any of the missing items.

Theft

An officer responded to the area of the 100 block of East Hall Street June 5, in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that approximately 30 minutes prior to the officers arrival a male and a female were in his residence and one of them stole $160 cash from his wallet. The officer spoke to a resident who stated that he had not seen either of the subjects. 

Fraud

An officer responded to the area of the 100 block of Floyd Griffin Jr. Street June 4, in reference to a fraud. The victim stated that he was contacted on Facebook Messenger from a profile in which he was asked to donate some money to the Milledgeville Police Department for a youth grant program. The victim thought the request was legitimate and that he was doing something positive for the community. Over the last three weeks, the victim sent almost $4,000 through various banking apps. Once the victim became suspicious of the situation he stopped sending money, contacted his bank and filed a police report.
