Wingstop signage went up above the future location’s door recently, and work is ongoing to prepare the space for opening. A “coming soon” sign is also in the window along with a 1-800 number for people to call if they are interested in employment.
Started as a buffalo-style chicken wing restaurant outside of Dallas, Texas in 1994, Wingstop has grown to more than 2,000 restaurants around the world. Wing flavors according to the company’s website include hot honey, lemon pepper, hickory smoked BBQ, Louisiana rub, Mexican street spice and Hawaiian. Beyond wings, the restaurant also offers chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches. Currently, the closest Wingstop is in Macon where there are two locations.
Milledgeville already has a robust chicken wing market with many chain and local restaurants that either feature or include wings on the menu. By choosing to come to Milledgeville, Wingstop officials indicate that there’s still room to make money with wings in this market.
When it opens, Wingstop will become the fourth business in the Publix retail strip, joining T-Mobile, Sugar Polish Nail Bar and Q Tan.
Sembler, the Florida company that built the retail development, is still advertising three 1,200-square foot openings within the strip.
