Missing man found drowned in river

A Milledgeville man reported missing last week to local authorities was found in the Oconee River.

Authorities said he was the victim of an apparent drowning.

Milledgeville Police Department Maj. Linc Boyer identified the victim as Timothy Wade Freeman.

He reportedly was last seen at the Oconee River Greenway about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.

Police officers using drone capabilities were able to locate the deceased victim’s body in the river about 11:30 a.m. May 23.

Boyer said Freeman’s body was located about a mile south of the Oconee River Greenway.

Boyer, who serves as commander of the road patrol division, said drone units directed game wardens with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division along with firefighters with Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services to the location where Freeman’s body was found.

An investigation is now underway by Milledgeville Police Department Maj. Brandon Sellers surrounding what exactly happened. Sellers is the commander of the police department’s criminal investigation division.
