A 19-year-old Bibb County man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop for speeding in Baldwin County May 14, local authorities say.

The suspect was identified as Jaquez Antonio Bailey of the 2400 block of Bristol Drive, Macon, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Saralynn Henderson.

Bailey was charged with one count of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, unlawful entry/delivery inside a guard line with a controlled substance, driving while license suspended and speeding.

After his arrest, he was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center and jailed.

Henderson said she spotted a 2019 Honda Insight speeding eastbound along Ga. Route 49 shortly before 1 a.m.

The car was traveling at 75 mph in a 55 speed limit zone.

Henderson said she made a traffic stop near Allen Memorial Drive.

“After exiting my vehicle to make contact with the driver, I smelled the odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle,” Henderson said. “I made contact with the driver by opening up the driver’s door because the driver’s window was inoperable.”

Seconds later, the deputy said she told a 911 dispatcher she needed assistance.

Henderson said when she asked the driver for his license, the driver said he had a picture of it. The driver identified himself as Jaquez Bailey. He also provided his birthdate.

“I gave this information to dispatch,” Henderson said. “Dispatch advised me there was a Jaquez Bailey in the (computer system) from previous incidents.”

The dispatcher sent the deputy a photograph. The man the deputy stopped matched the man who had had previous encounters with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

It was later learned that Bailey’s license had been suspended.

Henderson said she asked Bailey if there was anything in the car that should not be there, and he replied there was not. She said she also asked Bailey if there was any marijuana in the car, and he said there was none.

The deputy said she searched Bailey but did not find anything illegal.

Bailey was placed in the rear seat of her patrol vehicle.

In the center console, Henderson said she found a gold scale and two empty plastic bags.

The deputy said Bailey was taken to the county jail without incident.

At the jail, officers found two clear plastic bags that contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana inside Bailey’s jacket.
