A new Junior Board of Directors for the Milledgeville Main Street Downtown Development Authority was announced during Tuesday night’s Milledgeville City Council meeting.
“I’m excited to introduce our third class of the Junior Board of Directors for the Milledgeville Main Street Downtown Development Authority,” said Carlee Schulte, executive director of Milledgeville Main Street/Downtown Development Authority.
Jim Fain, one of the members of the board of directors, attended the city council meeting.

“The purpose for forming this was to reach a young population of future community leaders and engage them in local fundraising experiences, and then also give them some real-world experience in our community because some of them wouldn’t have that otherwise,” Schulte said.
The majority of the new members of the Junior Board of Directors attended the meeting and received certificates of appreciation, while some were unable to attend.
LaRue Wooten, who serves as events coordinator with the Milledgeville Main Street/Downtown Development Authority, “was a huge part of organizing everything with the Junior Board of Directors, and I’m sure all our students are thankful for her,” Schulte said.
She also thanked Milledgeville Mayor Mary Parham Copelan and members of Milledgeville City Council for allowing her to present the slate of Junior Board of Directors and present them with a pin and certificate for their community contributions.
She said it allows young, bright students from the community to work together since they attend different high schools.
“This group of young people is very deserving, and I’m thankful for their work,” Schulte said.
