Kyle Levester, already a region champion, cleared the high jump bar for a school record 6-8 … or did he? Young Bravette Alonie Adams ran the winning 100-meter time … in the preliminaries.

Baldwin High hosted the 2025 Region 4-AAA track and field meet April 21 and 23 on the Anderson Bentley Jr. Track at Braves Stadium and won five individual events while qualifying several other athletes for the GHSA sectionals coming up Saturday at Jefferson High School.

Levester won the boys high jump officially at 6-foot-7 but still attempted to reach 6-8. On the second attempt, he appeared to have cleared the bar, but that bar still fell to the padding nullifying the attempt to the dismay of all witnesses.

Baldwin High’s second win on the boys side came in the 4×800-meter relay, which features four runners going around the Bentley track two times each. The Braves completed the endurance test in 8:54.12. They are Amar James, Amor James, Epalahame TongaTaylor and Chris Hodnett.

From the Baldwin girls track and field team, Adams placed second in the 100-meter dash at 12.82 seconds. The finals were held Wednesday, but preliminary heats were held Monday. In those races, Adams timed 12.61. When the finals were completed, the region champion turned in that 12.61 time with Adams .21 seconds behind.

The Bravettes got region victories in the 4×200 relay (Aveccia Sherman, Nakayla Lundy, Alone Adams, Quasia Mitchell) at 1:46.86, the triple jump and the long jump. Basketball guard Zuri Grant won the long jump at 17 feet, 3.25 inches and Toni Adams won the triple jump at 35 feet, two inches.
