Trojan baseball beats Brentwood

A clean game netted the John Milledge baseball team its 14th win of the season Monday.
Trojan pitchers allowed just two hits and the defense played error-free ball in beating visiting Brentwood 8-0.
JMA batters collected nine hits in the win, led by multi-hit efforts from seniors Will Adams, Kolt McMichael and Remington Weaver. The team did its damage early, scoring all eight runs in the first three innings with five coming in the second alone. That early production caused John Milledge to already see three War Eagle pitchers by the time the second inning was over. The visiting arms struggled with control, and when they did find the strike zone, the ball was often sent on a line to the outfield or screaming through the infield.

From the mound, the junior duo of Cohen Brooks and Brooks Latimer handled things for the home team. The starter Brooks threw 5 1/3, allowing Brentwood’s two hits while striking out eight. Latimer, the team’s lone lefty arm, came on in relief in the sixth and sat down all five batters he faced, one via punchout.
Junior Will Hodges and sophomore Ethan Daniel had the hits for Brentwood.
Monday’s win moved JMA baseball to 14-5 on the season heading into this week’s games against region foe Tattnall Square Academy. The Trojans of Macon will come to town Thursday to finish out the two-game series with John Milledge. Here’s a reminder though that region games don’t hold all that much weight for either team, as they will split into separate classifications come state playoff time in May. The MaxPreps power rankings, not where a team finishes in region, determine state playoff seeding. Right now the JMA Trojans are fourth in GIAA Class AAA behind leader Pinewood, second-place Frederica and Dominion Christian. After this week John Milledge will have five games remaining to try and improve upon that placement. Next week’s games are against Vidalia Heritage and Mount de Sales.
