Former mall bank branch being demolished

The former Exchange Bank branch at the Milledgeville Mall is coming down.

A two-man work crew was busy dismantling the old bank building located at the northwest corner of North Columbia Street and Roberson Mill Road Friday afternoon. Fencing went up around the property last week.

It’s unclear what future plans may be for the site. Repeated attempts to reach Hull Property Group, owner of the mall property, have gone unreturned ever since the fencing was placed.

The building was previously Exchange Bank’s third Milledgeville branch until the bank vacated it in December 2022. That location originally opened in 1972. The over 3,000-square foot building and accompanying drive through canopy was also the home to Baldwin County’s very first ATM, which debuted in fall of 1979 according to Exchange Bank’s website.
