It is with a heavy heart that I join my fellow Georgians and the global community in mourning the passing of President Jimmy Carter, a man whose profound legacy of service, humility and unwavering dedication to humanity will inspire generations to come.
President Carter embodied the spirit of Georgia, a spirit of resilience, compassion, and an enduring commitment to justice. Born in the small town of Plains, he rose to lead not only our state but also our nation, carrying with him the values instilled by the soil of his roots. As the 39th President of the United States, he guided our country through challenging times with integrity and a steadfast vision of peace and fairness.
His presidency was only the beginning of a lifetime of service. Through the Carter Center, he became a beacon of hope and healing, tirelessly working to combat disease, promote democracy, and uphold human rights across the globe. His extraordinary contributions earned him the Nobel Peace Prize, a testament to the enduring impact of his mission to make the world a better place.

For those of us who call Georgia home, President Carter was more than a statesman; he was a neighbor, a teacher, and a model of true leadership. He showed us that leadership is not defined by power but by the ability to listen, to care, and to act for the greater good.
As we reflect on his remarkable life, let us honor his memory by committing ourselves to the causes he held dear — peace, equity, and the dignity of all people. President Carter’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched and in the work that continues because of his vision.
On behalf of the citizens of House District 149 and the state of Georgia, I extend my deepest condolences to the Carter family and to all who grieve his loss. May we find solace in knowing that his life’s work has left an indelible mark on our world and that his spirit will continue to guide us in the years ahead.
