Oak Hill’s boys and girls both won their school’s annual Turkey Shootout basketball tournament prior to last week’s Thanksgiving holiday. The two-day event featured six boys and girls teams from the area.

The trophies for the sixth annual Turkey Shootout basketball tournament never left Oak Hill Middle School last week.

The young Braves and Bravettes swept the competition in the two-day, double-elimination event held Nov. 25-26.

Both Oak Hill’s boys and girls teams won their two opening games to make the championship round where they each faced Swainsboro for the title. The Braves and Bravettes were victorious last Tuesday and had the most valuable players in the two tournaments that featured six teams apiece. The first annual Seticia “Who ya wit” Smith MVP trophies went to Kiersten Copeland in girls play and Dillon Wright for the boys. Smith is the former Oak Hill teacher and coach who lost her battle with breast cancer in June.
