GORDON, Ga. — Local and state law enforcement authorities are investigating the shootings of teen brothers at their residence in Wilkinson County early Tuesday, The Union-Recorder has learned.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made. Authorities were unable Thursday to say what might have led to the shootings.

A barrage of bullets were fired into a house on Zollie Lavender Road where the brothers were asleep in a bedroom they shared, according to Mary Chandler, special agent in-charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Office in Milledgeville.

“We got a call from the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office to request us to work an investigation involving the shooting of the brothers there at that residence,” Chandler told the newspaper during an interview at her office.

Chandler said agents worked with Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman and Chief Deputy Rod Chatman and deputies all night long to establish leads that might lead to solving the case.

The two 14-year-old brothers were asleep in separate beds at the time the shooting barrage erupted, Chandler said.

They each were shot once.

One of them sustained a gunshot wound to his side, while the other was shot in the arm.

They were treated at the scene by firefighters/first responders with the Wilkinson County Fire Department, along with emergency ambulance service personnel.

One of the victims was later treated at Piedmont Macon hospital in Macon, while the brother wounded in his side was taken to Atrium Health Navicent, The Medical Center in Macon.

“Someone from outside the house shot inside the residence in the direction of the bedroom where the two individuals were sleeping,” Chandler said. “About 20 rounds were fired.”

She said several shell casings were discovered in the front yard of the residence and the shooter or shooters were believed to have been standing in that area when they committed the shootings.

“They were standing in the front yard when they fired the shots,” Chandler said.

GBI Special Agent Zach Plock has been assigned to the investigation as the case agent.

“We are still working to solve this case along with the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office,” Chandler said.

She said anyone with information concerning the double-shooting is asked to call the GBI Region 6 Office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173 or the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office at 478-946-2411.
