Downtown Milledgeville has an interesting new addition that comes from a unique journey. Da’Ville Breakfast & Brunch was founded by a Milledgeville native and former Baldwin High Brave. Herschell Harvell Jr. is a United States Army veteran who worked as a military policeman for almost 19 years before an early retirement. When he returned, he worked in federal law enforcement for 13 1/2 years.

After his law enforcement career, Harvell became an entrepreneur, opening a commercial cleaning company in Atlanta alongside his business partner. He also purchased some homes in Milledgeville and started making trips back home more frequently. That led at least in part to Harvell Jr. making the decision to open a restaurant here.
It was not an impulse decision for him, as Harvell Jr. had already assisted his daughter and son-in-law, Rasheeda and Kirk Frost, (whom many may know from the hit reality show “Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta”) with opening their restaurant, Frost Bistro, in Atlanta. In addition, he has traveled all over the U.S. to various parts of the world. During said travels, Harvell said that he often sought out great breakfast foods because that is his favorite meal of the day.
Whenever he would come back to Milledgeville, he found there was not much variety when it came to breakfast. So, he decided to bring the city what it was missing: a great breakfast restaurant.
Located at 128 N. Wayne St., Da’Ville Breakfast & Brunch has a menu that Harvell Jr. says is “pretty unique.” It includes entrees like oxtails and grits and shrimp and grits as well as more traditional items like omelets and a breakfast plate with two eggs served with country ham, potatoes or creamy grits and toast. There is too much on the menu to list, but just know that it includes bacon, waffles, French toast and pancakes as well.
Another popular menu item is Herschell’s Cuban Chicken plate, which contains quarter dark meat chicken marinated in a savory Versailles sauce, black beans and rice topped with onions and fried plantains.
On the weekends, Da’Ville is introducing local brunch specials, which as Harvell Jr. said are selected by the staff and put together before being offered to customers.

Additionally, on Veterans Day this year, there will be complimentary breakfast to veterans. Harvell Jr. said he felt it was important to give back to those who served their country.
Da’Ville currently offers dine-in and pickup options, with plans to eventually do delivery.
Harvell says Da’Ville Breakfast & Brunch has gotten a great response from the community since opening. He said that he enjoys being able to offer people a different selection of quality foods. He said he also enjoys providing others an opportunity to earn a living and better understand the restaurant industry.
“There’s a plaque on the wall in the restaurant that says ‘You come in as guests and leave as family’. So that’s the type of attitude and characteristic that I want us to have,” he said.
Da’Ville Breakfast & Brunch is open on Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
