Letter to the Editor

The Chapel of All Faiths, where many public and private events have been held, should remain a viable gathering place. Having served on the CSH Foundation until its dissolution in 2014, I saw the passion of Rev. Payton B. Cook, who presided over many special services in this beautiful building, built with funds from volunteers of Georgia for use by the citizens of Georgia. Payton Cook always emphasized that the chapel is “a place where EVERYBODY is SOMEBODY.”

I am one among many who loved this special man of God, a beloved chaplain.

Payton and I were two of the original incorporators of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, which sponsored several events there and Milledgeville Cares, held several community Thanksgiving services in the chapel to support various community nonprofits, as well. In addition, The Milledgeville Players also worked hard to provide for special events, in this remarkable venue.

I believe we all should pray for those involved in decision-making and offer support to preserve this treasure-house of faith for the good of our whole community.

State funding may be available if we pledge to support and encourage participation for people from the state to attend meetings here. We have much to offer in the way of parking availability, housing availability, catering services, and the nearby Lockerly Arboretum and Selma Erwin Walking/Hiking Trails. This historical building deserves special consideration and plans for bigger and better things in the future.
