Letter to the Editor

As a retired educator, I am very disappointed and dismayed that the idea we need government interference in school libraries and which books are housed there for student use. Librarians and teachers are professionals and know what is appropriate for young people to read and understand about the lives and vicissitudes of life in general. Elected officials are the worst decision makers for what is or is not appropriate for student consumption in a school library. And those threats of bringing government down on those professionals makes my skin crawl. Apparently the Georgia Legislature and Governor Kemp haven’t enough to keep them busy and so they want to interfere where they have NO expertise. Expanding Medicaid for all Georgians who need it should be their priority now. But instead they want to micromanage what is happing in public schools.
