For 29 Years Exchange Bank’s New Horizons Travel Club has been a trailblazer in group travel expeditions. In September, the program embarked on another successful trip to Mackinac Island. Not only was the trip a success in seeing world-renowned sites but underground treasures as well.

The trip commenced with a visit to Dearborn, Henry Ford’s hometown and the birthplace of the Ford Motor Company. Travelers were immersed in living history through tours of the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, providing a glimpse into the visionary mind of Henry Ford and the impact of the Ford Motor Company on modern industry.

A culinary adventure awaited the travelers at The Ford Garage, where a delightful welcome dinner set the stage for the expedition. The group then ventured to Frankenmuth, aptly named “Little Bavaria,” indulging in the town’s famed fried chicken, and exploring the world’s largest Christmas store, Bonner’s. An architectural marvel awaited at Alden B Dow’s home and studio, a testament to 20th-century modern architecture.

The journey continued with a scenic drive and ferry ride to Mackinac Island. Travelers were transported back in time on horse-drawn carriages, experiencing the island’s natural beauty and architectural grandeur at the Grand Hotel. Each day brought a touch of opulence, featuring glamorous five-course dinners and island tours.

Moving forward, the travelers stayed overnight in Grand Rapids, an interlude before their Chicago adventure. A visit to Frederick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park showcased the fusion of art and nature, leaving travelers inspired by Fred and Lena Meijer’s vision.

The final leg of the journey unfolded in Chicago, where travelers were guided through the city’s architectural wonders, culminating in a spectacular First Lady Architectural River Cruise. The adventure concluded with a farewell dinner at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse, a moment of camaraderie and shared memories.

“Our trip to Mackinac Island was such a success. We explored world-renowned sites and discovered hidden treasures. From Dearborn’s living history to Frankenmuth’s culinary delights, every moment was a testament to the power of exploration,” remarked Kelly Anderson, New Horizons Travel Director.

New Horizons continues to design unparalleled travel experiences, blending history, culture, and adventure to create unforgettable journeys that resonate with every traveler.
