My Favorite Sweet Tea a dream realized for owner Deon Coney

Deon Coney is an outgoing family man and a local who takes pride in being active within the community. Now he is taking on the challenge of opening a business. 

My Favorite Sweet Tea, located at 104 W. Hancock St. in Milledgeville, held its grand opening on Oct. 6. The business is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

So, what exactly is My Favorite Sweet Tea? The business offers several tea beverage options with flavors including Milledgeville Mango, Strawberry Lemon and Blue Berry Bobcat. 

There is a twist to their menu as well, and it has nothing to do with twisted tea. My Favorite Sweet Tea also offers snacks for those on the go, such as hot dogs, nachos, salads, sandwiches and pastries in additon to the beverages. 

The  menu is expanding to keep bringing more to customers. My Favorite Sweet Tea is also introducing blended teas in addition to the regular sweet tea flavors. 

There are also no sugar diabetic-friendly teas as well as green tea, lemon and ginger, turmeric with meadowsweet and ginger and more. 

Lunch specials are available Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details on those can be found on Facebook. My Favorite Sweet Tea also offers discounts on meals and tea for seniors, city employees, students, and social media supporters who engage with their posts.

This business was founded because Coney says he saw a need in the area for “healthier and tealicious” beverage options not only for customers, but for events as well. 

But that’s not the only reason for opening. Milledgeville is a second home to Coney. His grandparents lived here and family trips to visit them were like going to Disney World to him as a child. 

Coney said he made countless memories here, filled with love, smiles and hugs. 

That strong connection made him dream of opening a business in Milledgeville. 

“Opening My Favorite Sweet Tea in downtown Milledgeville is not just a business venture; it’s a tribute to my grandparents’ love and the warm spirit of this town,” Coney said. “Their presence, though unseen, feels real, and I know they are cheering me on alongside their beloved hometown.” 

Coney said the recent grand opening for the business was a success. 

“I am immensely grateful to the Chamber of Commerce and Mainstreet for their unwavering assistance and support,” he said. 

Coney said that the joy he gets from sharing their sweet tea flavors and innovative quick meal snacks is what he loves most about running the business. 

“Opening My Favorite Sweet Tea in the downtown community of Milledgeville means the world to me. It’s more than just a business; it’s a dream realized. Being part of this community allows me to share my passion for delicious sweet tea with others. It’s not just about selling a product; it’s about connecting with people, bringing them joy, and creating a welcoming space,” Coney said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the local economy, provide employment, and be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. My Favorite Sweet Tea is more than a business venture; it’s a way for me to be an active and positive member of this wonderful community.”
