G&S Gas Service is celebrating its 60th anniversary and is showing no signs of slowing down. The business opened its doors in 1963 when president Larry Garrett partnered with his brother (Larry’s uncle) and a friend to start the business.

Larry began working with G&S Gas in 1980 during his junior year at Georgia College. His son, Raleigh, was born and raised in Milledgeville, and says he grew up in the propane industry. He joined the business beginning in 2013, making him a third-generation member of the family business. He now works as the company’s vice president.
Located at 507 S. Wayne St. in downtown Milledgeville and featuring a Lake Oconee showroom at 113 Harmony Crossing in Eatonton, G&S Gas Service strives to provide its customers with the best experience possible.
“While our main business is delivering propane to homes and businesses, our service team plays a crucial role in equipping those homes and businesses with the ability to use propane,” Raleigh said. “Our service team installs above ground and underground propane tanks; additionally, we sell, install, and service a variety of propane appliances including gas logs, space heaters, Generac home generators and Rinnai tankless water heaters.”
G&S Gas has a range of prices for each selection throughout the business. Space heaters that start below $200 and fireplaces that can cost over $5,000.
“We try to work within a customer’s budget in order to get the best quality product for each project,” Raleigh said “We also only want to sell reliable appliances that our team can repair and service for years to come.”
The business has served customers throughout Middle Georgia since opening with the help of what Raleigh and Larry referred to as “the largest and most experienced team in our area with over 250 years of combined experience, nine service technicians, a dedicated team of drivers, and an amazing office support staff.”

Both Larry and Raleigh could not be more grateful for the support that the local community has given G&S Gas Service over the years. The Milledgeville-Baldwin Chamber recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 60th anniversary and the Garretts were surprised at the turnout from community members that were eager to celebrate their milestone with them.
“In an age where many local businesses struggle or are sold to large non-local corporations, we are extremely thankful that our community has seen the value in doing business with a local family-owned company. The Milledgeville and surrounding communities have constantly supported our family business and we would be nothing without their support.”
G&S Gas’s Milledgeville location (507 S. Wayne Street) is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information visit https://gsgasinc.com/ or call 478-452-3625.
