POPP: School safety – something to consider

Letter to the Editor

As most will agree, our children’s safety is first and foremost on our minds. When we drop our kids/grandkids off at school, or put them on a bus, we have to rely on teachers and limited LEO to keep our children safe.

As we see more and more, those who want to harm or kill are going to find a place where they can inject the most damage with little or no resistance, like schools.

Why don’t we stop allowing our children to be defenseless victims and step up and give future predators something to consider, “Armed Resistance”?

We all understand that our local police force isn’t going to be able to have numbers of officers at all the schools throughout the state. However, like myself, each county has an abundance of retired, former military and law enforcement officers. Most or all have weapons training or would be willing to train. I, for one, would gladly volunteer a day or two a week to ensure the safety of our children.

This is something that the school board should consider.
