MainStreet Family Care

MainStreet Family Care opened its first clinic in 2015 with one particular goal in mind — providing affordable health care to rural communities. Its website states that MainStreet is “committed to helping you heal better and feel better fast.”

Access to medical care is sometimes limited in rural communities without travel, and some patients may not be able to do that. With that in mind, MainStreet is preparing to open its newest clinic in Milledgeville. The clinic is located at 2531 N. Columbia St., which is close to the Walmart Supercenter on Highway 441 and next to Verizon. Operating hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Erica Dunn has been with MainStreet since December 2021 and has worn a few hats in her relatively brief time there. She began as a medical assistant in the Monroe, Alabama office before becoming a travel trainer. That position required her to travel to new clinics that were opening throughout Alabama, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina to train the medical assistants. Dunn made the transition in April to her current position of marketing coordinator.

Dunn details the services that MainStreet Family Care will provide in Milledgeville. Services include primary care, urgent care, occupational medicine services, as well as COVID-19 testing, sports physicals for student athletes and more. MainStreet accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare and Medicaid.

MainStreet Family Care’s Milledgeville clinic includes two nurse practitioners, Jennifer Lee and Shane Becker, as well as six medical assistants with rotating shifts. A physicial will oversee the clinic. Online registration for urgent care appointments is suggested and can be done at home or at the clinic.

The system is meant to reduce the amount of time patients would normally have to wait inside the clinic. They can instead wait at home until they receive a text letting them know it’s their time to check in.

According to Dunn, the registration process is fairly easy to complete and can be done within five minutes.

The clinic will also see patients without insurance for a $129 flat fee.

“Everything we do in house is covered, so that is if you need x-rays, if you need injections, if you need flu or strep tests. Everything we do in house is included in that price,” Dunn said, “So you’re not coming in and paying extra for x-rays if that’s what the doctor needs, it’s $129 and that’s a flat price.”

The official opening of MainStreet Family Care’s Milledgeville Clinic is set for May 17 with a ribbon cutting slated for 11 a.m. followed by a tour of the clinic.

“We want to be engrained in our community, and let our community feel like they are part of our family as well,” Dunn said.
