Letter to the Editor

For many years, members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 6 and the American Legion Post 6 on Log Cabin Road have gathered during Memorial Day weekend to honor our military who gave their lives in service to our country. We do this by distributing poppies to the public. Poppies are red flowers which grew in abundance in Flanders Fields, a battlefield where many lives were lost during World War I.

We have gathered to distribute poppies at several locations this year. Unfortunately, circumstances made it impossible for us to use those locations this year. We were left with nowhere to distribute our poppies. Lowe’s to the rescue! I went to Lowe’s Home Improvement in Milledgeville and spoke to the store manager Nick Monroe. Upon hearing our dilemma Mr. Monroe immediately said, “I don’t see a problem with that!”

Upon arrival on Saturday, May 28, Mr. Monroe graciously greeted us and told us to let him know he could do anything to help us. All of the associates were very kind and helpful. They even went so far as offering us bottles of cold water to drink.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Lowe’s Home Improvement, Store Manager, Nick Monroe and the caring associates of the Milledgeville, Georgia store. We appreciate your kindness and support of our members who were present but most importantly, we appreciate your support and respect for the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country in all branches of our military. Thank you!
