Editorial

It’s Burger Week in Milledgeville, a first for the local community. Whether or not you’re a foodie or a burger aficionado, this is an event we should all applaud.

While the concept isn’t new, Macon hosts its own annual event, this week brings attention to local eateries and hopefully brings foot traffic to these establishments. It’s not just about the burgers — although based on the photos and descriptions of the entries, that’s certainly a plus — this is about supporting these restaurants. When we consider the financial hardships many restaurants have faced over the past couple of years, the rising inflationary costs of food and supplies and the ongoing staffing shortages, it’s such a refreshing sign that these establishments are here and still up and running. The fact that some of the Burger Week participants are still relatively new local restaurants is also a positive sign.

Here’s how you can help them out. Stop by any of the 13 participating restaurants through Friday and try the special Burger Week entry. Then, vote for your favorite. There’s even a chance for taste-testers to win prizes by purchasing a Passport and getting it stamped and the participating restaurants.

Hopefully, this event is the start of an annual tradition that gives local eateries a boost through friendly competition.
