During the course of an investigation of fraud, on March 3, a business owner indicated that several checks for the business had been written by a former employee who did not have authority to do so. The checks included $1,800 written to the suspect on Sept. 3. A signed affidavit was provided stating that the check was counterfeit. The bank reimbursed the client on Sept. 22, resulting in a loss of $1,800 to the bank. The business owner stated that the former employee had stolen the business checkbook and had continued writing bad checks. Federal warrants for theft by deception were issued for the former employees arrest.

 Theft

An officer spoke with a complainant on March 4, in reference to a stolen firearm. The complainant stated that some time in December she rented a U-Haul in Texas and moved to a local apartment complex. She said when she was done with the U-Haul, a company out of Macon came to pick up the U-Haul, but she left her sister’s Smith & Wesson .380 handgun in the vehicle. The complainant was unable to provide additional information on the gun, nor was she able to provide serial numbers.
