Andalusia lecture series kicks off Sunday

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Flannery O'Connor — Andalusia Foundation is proud to announce its annual lecture series to begin Sunday. The foundation has been offering a lecture series to the public each February since 2006. The programs are held each Sunday throughout the month from 3 to 5 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

“The lectures typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes and are given in an intimate setting," said Executive Director Craig Amason. "It's one of the few times the public are allowed into the dinning room of Andalusia which makes it even more special."

This year, three of the four lectures are based on Flannery O'Connor while the fourth lecture, scheduled for Feb. 24, will be about Dr. Tony Martin’s new book "Life Traces of the Georgia Coast." Martin is the honors program coordinator at Emory University.

"His book is about tracks and traces of the birds of the Georgia coast, some of which were beloved by O'Connor," Amason said.

The featured lecture for this upcoming Sunday will be by Dr. Bruce Gentry, editor of the Flannery O'Connor Review at Georgia College and chair of the Foundation's Scholars Council. Gentry will give a lecture titled, “The Influence of Carson McCullers and Erskine Caldwell on Flannery O'Connor."

If you'd like to visit the final home of writer Flannery O'Connor, Andalusia is open for self-guided walk-in tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information about the lecture series, contact Amason at (478) 454-4029.
