Church holds political forum for candidates to speak

MILLEDGEVILLE —

Vaughn Chapel Baptist Church invites Baldwin County voters to attend a political candidate forum, an “Evening of Enlightenment,” to hear directly from candidates’ about their views and goals if elected.

“The purpose is to be an informative gathering where all candidates, regardless of their party, can enlighten the community. The church thought it was necessary to get acquainted with candidates so we know who will be guiding our city,” the Rev. Tony Fraley said. “I think it’s important for people to know who they’re voting for. Hopefully voters can make the best decision for who will be the best person for us, no matter their party.”

The informational meeting is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, located at 1980 N. Jefferson St.

Candidates that have confirmed on sharing their views include state Rep. incumbent Rusty Kidd (I), state Rep. candidate Quentin T. Howell (D), County Commission District 5 candidate Dwayne Sentell (D), County Commission incumbents Emily Davis (D) of District 1 and Faye Smith (D) of District 4, and state Senate of District 25 candidate Darrell Black (D).

Candidates will speak on topics asked from three of the nine questions that have been provided in advance before the floor opens up for public questions and comments.

“We hope and pray enough people will have enough interest to come out and raise a question. Young people also need to have an interest in their community, especially in the time we’re living in. Every voice is important; every vote is important,” Fraley said. “Hopefully candidates can give us some hope because I think that’s what we’re looking for. We want the best qualified candidate, so Milledgeville will be better off in the next few years.”

For more information about the forum, contact Fraley at (478) 251-1533.
