St. Patrick’s at the Greenway Saturday

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The green theme of St. Patrick’s Day will be in full blast at the Oconee River Greenway Park and Riverwalk Saturday as numerous vendors and activities will bring families together to enjoy in the community fun day.

The Oconee River Greenway Foundation is hosting the second annual St. Patrick’s Day event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with Walter Reynolds of Z97 FM guiding the day’s events.

“The event is open and free to the community,” said Reynolds, who also serves as treasurer on the Greenway Foundation board. “Wear green and it will be a very festive event.”

The Greenway Farmers’ Market will kickoff the day with vendors, including Babe + Sage Farm, Sparta Imperial Mushrooms, Three Centuries Farm, Salamander Springs Farm and more, offering locally- and sustainably-grown foods from produce, artisan breads, baked goods and dairy products to pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, goat, chicken and eggs.

Arts and crafts will be conducted at booths featuring Lavender and Lace, Sharin’ My Stitches and FolksArt.

At 10 a.m., adults and children can participate in family yoga with Xan Nichols, face painting with Maria Fontenot, Mr. Galloway’s petting zoo, and various activities with Elite Gymnastics. Jim Chapman and Charlie Adams will begin their live performance of today’s light rock favorites at 11 a.m.

The Greenway Foundation will provide grilled hot-dogs and hamburgers and serve Chik-fil-A iced tea and lemonade for a small fee with proceeds supporting the park and riverwalk to become an essential part of the community.

“The proceeds will be going back to the Greenway Foundation to help continue funding phase two and three of expansion which folks can see from the highway and it’s very exciting for us,” Reynolds said. “We want everyone to come down to enjoy the Greenway space and learn more about the upcoming expansion and how much the Greenway can do to unify the community. It’s going to be a great day.”
