MILLEDGEVILLE — The 2012 Deep Roots Festival was recently recognized at the annual Southeast Festivals and Events Kaleidoscope Awards Banquet. The banquet, held Feb. 19, is designed to recognize the marketing, programming and overall event.
The awards acknowledge the highest level of achievement in the festival and event industry throughout the southeast region. The annual Southeast Festivals and Events Association Conference was hosted by the Hotel at Auburn University, Feb. 18-20. The awards banquet ceremony was held in conjunction with the conference.
Top festivals and events throughout the southeast were recognized for their outstanding contribution to the events industry, among them was the Deep Roots Festival.
The recognition that the Deep Roots Festival receives for winning awards helps to draw more than 15,000 people to Milledgeville each year.
After a long debate the Deep Roots Festival Committee decided to send in six nomination packets. The Deep Roots Festival Committee was excited to bring home awards in four categories — three silver wins and one gold. Winning gold two years in a row is the Best Event Photograph, by photographer, Ryan Meyers. Meyers captured an amazing shot of the band the Givers looking into a crowd of fans. The three silver awards go to Best T-Shirt, Best Poster and Best Event Program.
Jimmy Holder has been the creative genius for the Deep Roots design campaign since the festival’s inception.
“It’s an honor to work with such a great committee each year to host the Deep Roots Festival. The event has an enormous economic impact on our community and creates great publicity for our city,” said Milledgeville Main Street Director Carlee Schulte of the recognition via press release.
The 10th anniversary Deep Roots Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 19.
