Arrests made in club disturbance

MILLEDGEVILLE — Two arrests have been made in connection to a weekend shooting at a local night club.

Saturday night at approximately 12:10 a.m., an altercation erupted inside the Level 3 Night Club, according to the Milledgeville Police Department. There was an entertainer performing when the events occurred.

Based on information gathered by authorities two rival groups started the altercation, which caused the event to stop.

Security for the event escorted a male subject to officers and explained how he allegedly attempted to smuggle a firearm inside the club. The suspect, William Callaway, was taken into custody.

During a custodial search of the suspect, a small plastic baggie containing suspected Ecstasy was found in his right watch pocket.

Callaway was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a Schedule 1 substance.

Officers from Georgia College Public Safety, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and MPD escorted everyone out of the parking lot.

Maj. Reginald Hill of MPD said shots were fired during evacuation time.

“While we worked on crowd control, three gun shots were heard from across the street, near Beckham’s and the railroad tracks. The suspect that was firing the shots was dressed in orange clothing and was quickly taken into custody by nearby officers,” Hill said.

Three vehicles were damaged during the shooting. The motive for the shooting is still unclear.

The suspect, Aundare Griffin, has been charged with reckless conduct, three counts of criminal damage to property and theft by receiving stolen property.

MPD officials have not located an actual victim, nor has anyone reported being shot.

“I am thankful for the assistance of the agencies that night. This situation could have been worse if it not have been for officer presence,” Hill said.
